This is an excellent base coat primer for acrylic and oil paint. It also has a high tooth, so you can use it with pastels, oil pastels, graphite, and charcoal. It dries to a clear, flexible, non-cracking, and non-yellowing film.
Acrylic Clear Gesso is perfect for priming a wide variety of supports, including canvas, paper, and wood.

This product is excellent if you decide later to add texture to your painting after the inital gesso application to the canvas. It lets the underpaintings shine through if applied lightly. As you build up more and more texture, it does become slightly translucent. If you are wanting to build up thickier, more textured features, it will take you awhile with this product as it tends to take a bit of time to dry completely. When using it just to mask and under painting, however, i find it to be an excellent alternative to glosses and finishing sprays, which add too much shine wehn you only need a protective layer.
